Mumbai : The Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC), in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), is organising 8th Banking & Finance Conference on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Regal Room, Hotel Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai. The theme of the Conference is “Changing Contours of Banking and India’s Growth Aspirations”.
Mr. Jayant Sinha, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Finance is the Chief Guest at the inaugural session and Mrs. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, State Bank of India is the Guests of Honour at the inaugural session. Besides, a large number of CMDs/MDs and CEOs of PSUs, foreign banks and private sector banks will be addressing various Business Sessions of the Conference. Ernst & Young (EY) is the Knowledge Partner for the Conference.
The backdrop of the Conference
Two new full-fledged banks recently launched operations. Newer banking entities in the form of payment banks and small banks are set to launch. Technology and telecom companies, who were facilitators, are emerging as strategic allies and competitors of Indian banks, which are under pressure to achieve global size and efficiency.
The Government has noted the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Besides, greener opportunities are opening up. Under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, 21 crore bank accounts were opened in 12 months, garnering deposits amounting to Rs33,000 crore. Financial inclusion is emerging as the next growth driver, complementing the traditional drivers of banking viz. consumption, investment and trade.
Rapidly expanding banking services are being offered on increasingly cheaper smart phones. Banking can support the Digital India initiative and enable GenNext to achieve its growth aspirations. The objective of the Conference is to discuss the roadmap for Indian banking to navigate through this arena of unconventional competition and unparalleled opportunity.

About Indian Merchants’ Chamber
Set up in 1907, Indian Merchants’ Chamber is an apex Chamber of trade, commerce & industry with headquarters in Mumbai. It has about 2700 direct members, comprising a cross section of the business community, including public and private limited companies and over 225 trade and industry associations through which the Chamber reaches out to over 2,50,000 business establishments in the country. IMC is the first Chamber in India to get ISO 9002-2000 certification which has since been upgraded to ISO 9001: 2008. IMC is the only business Chamber in India with which the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was associated as an Honorary Member.
