KHADI COMMISSION TO IMPART SPECIAL TRAINING TO HELP DROUGHT AFFECTED FARMERS OF MAHARASHTRA

Following up on the recent call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to farmers to take up allied jobs alongwith agriculture activities, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) took the initiative to hold special training for farmers from the drought prone areas of Maharashtra. The training will be imparted through KVIC’s Departmental Training Centres at Nasik and Dahanu from 15th April 2016. The skill development training programmes already available at Nasik and Dahanu centres will be linked up for the special training package to the farmers and their family members. 

The main objective of the training is to equip farmers to take recourse to alternate sources of income and reduce their dependency on agriculture activities, considering natural calamities, imbalances and drought situation. The skill development programme would enable the farmers to start Micro Small Unit locally based on local resources.

The farmers will be identified with the help of block development offices and the district administration. Advertisement will also be placed in local newspapers to give wide publicity about the scheme. The farmers will have the liberty to select from a menu of training programmes. Experienced and well-qualified technical faculty of KVIC will conduct the programme.  There will be lodging and boarding facilities for the farmers.  There will be a nominal fee @ Rs.10/- per day charged as caution money. The farmers will get back the money,on successful completion of the training programme. The programmes will run for 15-30 days. The emphasis will be on practical aspects. 


The KVIC will provide following training programme to the farmers and their families:

1.         Food & Vegetable processing.
2.         Bakery training
3.         Spices processing
4.         Agarbatti making
5.         Candle making 
        6.         Edible Oil Extraction
7.         Paper Conversion courses
8.         Wielding, carpentry and black smithy training
9.         Palm Leaf Cup/Plate making
10.      Fibre Article making
11.      Lac production and value added products.

During the training programme, Psychiatrics and Counsellors will hold motivation and counselling sessions of one-day, so that if the farmers are suffering from depression, they may come out of it.

Bankers will participate on the last day of the training programme. With the assistance of State Directors concerned,financial support from MUDRA Bank and PMEGP Scheme of KVIC will be worked out for each farmer. Nasik Training Centre is located at Nasik-Trymbakeshwar Road is having full-fledged infrastructure of Skill Development Activity.Farmers from Osmanabad, Nasik and Dhule will be trained here. The other departmental training centre at Dahanu will cover farmers from Thane and Palghar.
