LINE Lite, a way

to get closer

to more people

in India

New Delhi, IndiaA common saying often peddled is ‘good things come in small packages’ and with LINE Lite we have taken strides to accomplish just that. LINE Lite aims to maximize user experience whilst reducing the dependence on infrastructure to use it. Though keeping the key features of LINE, LINE Lite is beneficial for consumers who have less preference or needs for various functions.

LINE Lite benefits at a glance
Less than 1MB size, 25x faster to install
Less data consumption

The central tenet to LINE Lite is the size of the app which is less than 1 MB. This makes LINE Lite 25x faster to install than the standard LINE app (23 MB). This trimming will definitely be a boon for users who are still using 2G technology and reduce any entry level barriers. However, the compact size shouldn’t give rise to any notions of reduced functionality as we’ve integrated all the core features of text, image based communication and the much loved stickers. LINE’s multiple language function –lighter than the Android alternative – helps in minimizing the size of the app but does so without compromising the needs of their multi-lingual users.

The reduced size also brings multifaceted benefits. It helps to reduce data consumption. With data packs (for 2G/3G) from Airtel and Vodafone – India’s largest mobile network operators by market share – being doled out between Rs.150 and 300, the LINE Lite application will help conserve data, thereby making a huge difference in areas where internet percolation is in its nascence. Keeping the customer’s best interests close to our heart, we’ve also made sure that for pre-existing LINE users a separate creation of ID will not be needed to use LINE Lite.

The LINE messenger app– with over 211 million monthly users (as of July, 2015) in 230 countries and regions – has already made a concerted effort to reach out and make communicating accessible to a vast geographical landscape. With the launch of LINE Lite, the application will be the first of its kind in the instant messaging segment to cater to the demographic thus far cut off by limitations in infrastructure and low-spec smartphone. Despite facing a robust, ultra-competitive application eco-system, LINE believes in tracing its own, unchartered path towards reaching out to an even greater pool of users.

LINE Lite is a definite option to consider especially for users in the India market, given the infrastructure of the region. According to the Department of Telecom (DoT), there are over 944 million wireless telephone connections – a 97% share of the total services – and yet, less than 10% of the total mobile subscribers have transitioned to 3G.
LINE launched LINE Lite on 23rd July for android users in India and 10 other countries as first phase. Andnow, it is available for global users from 17th August except Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Iran and Cuba.
