Industry leaders, business tycoons and experts in the field of cardiology infused the inauguration of the ‘World Congress on Coronary Heart Disease’ with excitement and elation. The congress was organized by the Heart Foundation of India at the Taj Palace in Colaba, Mumbai and aimed at exchanging the latest breakthroughs in the industry amidst delegates from around the world.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Shatrughan Sinha in the company of Padma Vibhushan Dr B.K.Goyal, President of Heart Foundation of India and Executive president Dr Lekha Pathak. Shri Bharat Taparia, Chairman of Bombay Hospital and Abhay Soi, Chairman of Radiant Health Group also graced the event.
Shatrughan Sinha said “I am happy and truly honored to be amidst industry experts here at the congress. This gathering of true professionals has made great contributions to the treatment and control of Coronary Heart Disease. In a country like India where 75% of health facilities are available to 25% of people, great progress is still to be made to make these facilities available to the vast percentage of rural India that still suffers from a lack of accessibility to basic healthcare.”
Padma Vibhushan Dr B K Goyal said “ Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the most common and an important ailment to treat. Today in India CHD is on it’s way to becoming an epidemic as cases have more than doubled in the last 3 decades. CHD is a lifestyle disease and for a country as vast as India , focus must be given to prevention rather than cure. With the advent of newer modalities of treatment for CHD such as 4th Generation Stents, treatments and surgeries have become more efficient giving patients a second chance at reforming their lifestyle.”
Dr Lekha Adik Pathak said “ Presently every 8th person suffers from Hypertension and what is even more shocking is every 4th person suffers from CHD. If precautions are not taken in India by2020 every alternate person is going to be a victim to this ailment. This congress aims at equipping delegates with rich knowledge and the latest treatment methods and modalities for Coronary Heart Disease taking us closer to the goal of awareness, precaution and control of the same.”
Mr Abhay Soi and Mr Bharat Taparia expressed gratitude towards being part of the congress. Mr Taparia urged the audience to focus on the three pillars to a healthy life namely diet, exercise and stress control. Mr Soi shared his enthusiasm at the presence of cardiologists from around the world under one roof and said that the professional formed the core part of the medical industry.
